In 1901, the city outlawed burials due to space issues. Because of this restriction, only two cemeteries remain. Most of its cemeteries are in Colma, Calif. There, the dead outnumber the living by over 1000 to 1. Colma is a small incorporated town in San Mateo County, California, on the San Francisco Peninsula in the San Francisco Bay Area. The population was 1,792 at the 2010 census.
